Epic Stories
Like many people, I love epic stories. There is something within us that is stirred by the notion of a quest. From ancient Greek mythology to the modern examples of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia we are inspired. Our hearts intuit that we are a part of a bigger story. I want to argue that this is true; it is the bigger story of salvation history. We all have a part to play. John Henry Cardinal Newman once wrote: "God has put me here for some purpose that no one else can do... I am as important in my place as an archangel is in his."
In the masterful Lord of the Rings we see the triumph of the hobbits, the little guys. Like Saint Therese, the Little Flower, let us do small things with great love. Only in heaven will we realize the effect of every little “yes” offered to Jesus. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven!
Pray, pray, pray,
