Dear friends of Fr. Benedict,
From
the Hospital:
Message for Sunday, May 2, 2004
A review of the many letters and e-mails we receive shows that many
are from non-Catholics. Almost every Protestant denomination seems to be represented,
as well as many friends of the Jewish faith. Sometimes people say that they
don’t belong to any organized religion, but they believe in God. One person
even said, “I don’t believe much in God, but I want you to know
that I am praying for you.”
This is all deeply moving and tells us that compassion and concern for another
person, even someone they have never met, is still very much alive in the United
States and throughout the world, wherever the Internet reaches. We receive e-mails
even from China. The suffering of another human being has a mysterious ability
to unite people, especially those who are trying to be compassionate. This is
a most valuable human quality, and it is probably why Christ in Matthew 25 describes
it as the key to eternal life: “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was
thirsty and you gave me drink . . . I was sick and you visited me.”

Dear Father Benedict: I hope you had time to read a note from a lady named Maureen.
She wrote, saying that Jesus reaches into time, and requests the company of
close friends to keep the vigil in lonely night hours....and YOU were picked
from His Guest List.....I want to thank her for those beautiful thoughts..I
can share them with my own patients, also. I am SURE that Maureen is correct
in her conclusions..I would want Fr. Benedict on my guest list also. In a way...father
is on our guest list, as we are on his..sharing love and prayers on a daily
basis in this website! Praised Be Jesus!-Jackie, Batavia,New York
Dear Fr BenI loved your message about children. Thank you for the gentle
Biblical reminder of what Jesus had to say about children. We need these reminders
ever so much. It is quite strange reading your messages when I click on as thee
is a big time difference & I find myself reading the same message twice
but that is good as it reafirms it everso much more.
hoping and praying that you will get better soon.
Love & prayers,-Anne, Auckland, New Zealand
Father Benedict, I'm an Anglo-Catholic who has gained so much from your sharing of wisdom. I pray several times daily for your complete recovery and will continue to pray the Rosary with you in mind. May God's Holy Spirit comfort and relieve you. In His Service,-Lee, from Arizona
Dear Father Benedict, I hope you realize by now how deeply loved and special you are. You also are just really cool!! I remember seeing you at the airport and introducing myself to you, nervously shaking your hand like you were a celebrity! Praise God for your ongoing healing! Blessings from-Mary, Tulsa, Oklahoma
A reminder that you remain in my prayers. My diminish of hearing and other difficulties make me thankful for all that it well. each morning as I put my feet on the floor I thank God that I am able to do so, yes it is still not enough ample thanks as you mentioned. God Bless with prayers-Alice, Riverhead, New York
Dear Father Benedict,
I am glad that you have made it to the Rehabilitation Centre, and that God will bless you there and give you renewed ability and strength in your right arm, and in your legs. I was happy to pass by the St Fidelis Friary, in the East End of London very briefly, on my way through the city, a couple of weeks or so ago and pass my greetings on to Brother Jacob and his colleague. It was good to hear your message from the hospital, and I shall be praying for your recovery,
Love and greetings from-Christopher, Leicester, United Kingdom
Father Groeschel,
I was thrilled to see your video message on EWTN's Life On The Rock last night.
You looked great, and I was glad to see that in spite of your physical trials,
your spirit is stronger than ever!!! Your recent accident has made me ever more
appreciative for the work that you do, and I am so grateful to God that in spite
of what He has given you in your sufferings, He still allows you to be with
us to teach us even more about Him. Father, our Lord has gifted you with the
incredible ability when you teach to make people really GET IT! I can't describe
how effective and moving you are when you speak to us. Remember how Mother Teresa
would tell the sick and dying that God must have loved them so much to give
them such suffering. Clearly, His love for you is great, as is my love for you.
Thank you for all you do, and I pray that our Lord will offer you comfort in
your sufferings, and if it be His will, a complete recovery. Think of all the
poor souls who are flying to heaven thanks to your offering up your sufferings
for them! Between you and Mother Angelica, I suspect that purgatory is a little
lonlier these days. ;) I hope to see you teaching on television again soon!
May our Lord God have great and infinite mercy on you, and give you all His
graces to help you endure!
Much love,
-Heather, Pittsburgh, Penn.
Dear Fr. Benedict, you continue to be in my daily prayers. Hadiccaped,
a word that took me 7 years to accept after my car accident. 11 days ago, I
noticed that I still did not have integrated Job who had been "running
after me" ssince a while and his last chapter. In fact, I had decided to
accept the whole healing of our Lord to ...come! And to be in His whole resurrection!
But since 11 days ago, I realised that yet I have to accept to be still bit
handicaped and not to decide HIS will nor to understand His purposes. And as
irrealistic and dark were those 7 years since the car accident, now as irrealistic
to me is the huge waves of gifs and grâces coming from the Lord. As difficult
for me as well to accept, it is unbelievible!A shower of grâces to be
spread around (= Job CH42 v10-12).Difficult perhaps to imagine on a hospital
bed and yet still difficult to accept when it happens! Hum, sorry Fr. Benedict,
but "I have a hint" that one day, you will answer me about sharing
the realness of Job Ch42 v10-12.In the meantime, I am very very greatfull to
you and your brothers for your generosity of making me discover "all the
other things" that I did not experimented or lived.
God bless you and protects you, Father Benedict.-Anne, Crupet, Namur BELGIUM
Dear Father,
I have had MS for 20 years and paralyzed from the chest down. You have always
been an insperation to me and I pray for your recovery. I hope someday you will
be able to give a talk on your experience. I look forward to your internet talks
and movie clips. GOD BLESS YOU.
-Ken, Port Richey, Florida
Dear Father Groeschel,
Because of EWTN and you, I received my first Sacrament of Reconciliation last
evening.
The Fanciscian Father was so kind and gentle, He knew i had confessed all my
sins to our Father these many years, so he gave me the blessing and absolution.
We ended our session talking about you and praying for your recovery.
You are sure on the mission field, helping those who most need your help at
this time.
Keep up the good work , finish your job there and get back to shepherding us.
Love-Mary, Mebane, North Carolina
My job is driving me nuts( well whose doesn't!!) I am offering
up any suffering I endure for you. Thanks for all you do!!- Theresa, West Babylon,
New York
Dear Father Benedict,
We just watched your greeting from the hospital, and our son, Benedict Xavier,
said he wanted "to kiss and hug Fr. Benedict to make him feel better."
So that is what we send you--a child's kisses and hugs for continued healing
and strength. In Christ always, all ways,-Sarah, Greenbay, Wisconsin
