Dear friends of Fr. Benedict,
From
the Hospital
Message for Wednesday, May 5, 2004
Bishop Sheen used to say that there is nothing worse than wasted suffering. That’s for sure. Wasted suffering is fatiguing and frustrating, but if you receive your sufferings as something allowed by God and you see them through, you accept them and smile through them as best you can. This is the advice of our dear Mother Teresa. Sufferings can then become something very powerful and good for us and the rest of the world. The old Catholic habit of offering our sufferings for the conversion of sinners and for the reparation for our own sins and the sins of the world is an excellent idea. It is an act that we should make every morning.
Let us continue to pray for each other!
Father Benedict

Dear friends,
It’s been quite some time since I last wrote. Praise God Father B is doing much, much better! I will be offering Mass at his bedside on Thursday.
Father had surgery on his elbow yesterday. The surgery lasted about an hour and everything went well. The doctors removed the metal plates which were inserted in Orlando. Although he was in some pain after the surgery, some sedation did help. He told me he was offering up his pain and discomfort for all “his friends” who visit him everyday! He also walked over 75 feet using a cane today.
So friends, may the Lord bless you and all those who are dear to you. Thank you for your continued prayers.
Fr. Glenn Sudano, C.F.R.

Father Benedict, Praise God for every step you were able to take and every stair you were able to climb. The new video on the site is so powerfully moving. I have to say that the clip of you crossing the road with palms in your hands brought to life the realization of your crossing the road in January in Florida. How symbolic the video seemed, the mind reflects on the triumphant entrance of Christ into Jerusalem, and through God's blessings we see a triumphant walk and climb of stairs for you. God's grace flows from your messages to us and it uplifts me to read the messages and hear your voice. Thank you Father Benedict, I will continue to pray for your recovery and all the needs of those reaching out on this website. God Bless you Father.-Kathy,East haddam, Conn.
Dear Fr. Benedict, Experience is the best teacher, as they say. Your latest experiences have brought forth from you many valuable teachings for all of us. This unexpected turn in your life, away from the plans you had, is really more important for you and for us than what you would have been doing had you not had the accident. I love the new video, which shows you as a young friar. We see in those pictures the young man who had no idea how extensively the Lord would use him--a young man full of potential and generosity. Now we know "the rest of the story." Don't be discouraged.- Pat, Akron, Ohio

Dear Father Benedict: I never got the chance to read the many books you wrote; your books were prominent at the Pauline bookstore and everyone, including the staff, would give high praise for your latest book and for all the book you wrote before that. Now, everyday, I am going to this webpage to read what your wrote. Your thoughts and comments are warm and real and personal. Everyday I get new insight into the reality of life. Thank you for writing every day, despite your pain and discomfort and I pray for your everyday recovery. By the way, I went to the same bookstore, a small group of people were waiting to be checked out and your name came up and most especially, your comments you write everyday on this site. Everyone is praying for you and, me, I'm finally reading one of your books - your own real everyday life. Thank you, Father.-Kathy, Philadelphia, Penn.

Greetings
Blessed greetings to Fr. Benedict! It was great to see the latest video from
rehab, on the Life on the Rock program (EWTN)..my elderly mother wishes to send
her astute observations to father...she said that his newly trimmed beard is
as handsome as the Colonel from Kentucky...famous for that southern fried chicken.....(smile)
He lived to be a good old age....and he always had a great smile for everyone..Has
Mother Angelica sent you any of her keen observations? We all miss her wit and
humor, and I know how great those live programs were with the two of you, as
co-hosts. Hopefully, an evening of old programs FEATURING the TWO of YOU could
be arranged by the producer, Mr. Keck...Have Father Glenn contact him for the
rest of us, as I am sure there are thousands of people who would love to see
the programs from the archives! Continued love and prayers, -Jacqueline, Batavia,
New York
Dear Father Benedict,
Lord, have mercy. My youngest received First Communion this Sunday. I thought
to myself, "How wonderful it is that now all seven of us can receive together."
And she confided in me, "Mommy, now I don't have to be left in the pew
no more." (I did not correct her grammar, but gave her a big hug :) ) My
heart goes out to the people who are left in the pew, and I pray that they will
receive our Lord. I continue to pray for your recovery, and those who have shared
their story with you. May God bless and keep you.
-Charlotte, Chariton, Iowa
Dear Fr. Groeschel: Each day I look forward to reading your daily message.
It adds to my day as you cannot imagine. I am collecting your inspiritational
thoughts and will put them together in a book for my son who is now 15 to read
when the time is right. He is entering into that overwhelming time of teenagehood
with all its worldly temptations and experiences. So far so good, thank God.
He has the insight of someone who has been through many trials and tribulations,
but he has not.. Please pray for my son Andrew as he journeys through the challenging
times ahead.
May God continue to Bless You and Keep You.
-Christine, Deerfield, New Hampshire
