Dear friends of Fr. Benedict,
From
Trinity Retreat
Wednesday, June 2, 2004
Many of the messages that we receive on e-mail in response to this
little column on the friars website, ask us specific news about how I’m
doing. Well, I’m able to walk
at least a thousand feet every day with a cane. I’m also able most of
the time to get up out of the chair on my own. I can take care of a certain
number of personal needs, but my right arm is still quite stiff and we don’t
know how much more it will improve. I’m happy to say that I’m gradually
and slowly getting back to work, but I need a great deal of sleep. This surprises
me because I never slept much in my life, but now I need probably ten hours
of sleep a day. Whenever I get impatient about all this, I remember the words
of the very fine lady from the Caribbean who was my night nurse. As I left the
hospital and thanked her for all of her kindness, I said I was disappointed
that I was not more able to do things and she said “Father, don’t
forget when I met you two months ago you couldn’t even move. We have to
be grateful to God for what we have.”
Let us continue to pray for each other!
Father Benedict

Dear Father: I am very glad to know that you are recovering so well. I want
to especially thank you for these messages.Your sharing of your faith and your
experience is helping me cope with my mother who is very sick. Also, reading
your messages are very hopeful for me and give me an understanding of suffering
and the need to pray for the salvation of souls. Please continue to send these
messages and I hope that you will write another book with these reflections.
The Lord indeed has much more for you to do because we need to hear from you
what the Lord is telling you. Thank you and God Bless==My prayers go out to
you. - Marion, Lutz, Florida

Dear Fr. Benedict, We are the ones who need to be thanking you. For all of your books and tapes, for your continued teaching even now as you need all your energy to recover but most of all for your example of faith and love shown by your willingness to embrace the cross. Your daily messages have become a very important part of my day and serve to remind me to pray not only for you but for all who struggle and especially for all of our priests. My son will be entering the seminary in august and I know that your example will help him to persevere when the going gets tough. Be assured that you will continue to be in my daily prayers.God Bless you - Karen, Lexington, Illinois

Dear Fr. Groeschel, It was good to see you in this week's edition of the Long Island Catholic. It was a wonderful article and I am so glad to hear how well you are progressing. I know that the road ahead is still a tough one so I shall continue to keep you in my prayers. God bless you and I thank you for all you are to so many people, myself included. - Corinne, Hampton Bays, New York
Dear Father Benedict, Your recent message to us about being careful not to think of this world as our home made an impact on me. I know it to be the truth, but it is so easy to get comfortable with a "place" especially a place of long term residence. A good reminder to detach from this world and false security and to remember what indescribable love and beauty await us in heaven! I'm glad you're back among your brothers and again, thank you for so selflessly providing us with your inspiring daily messages and weekly videos. We have all come to depend on them, you know!! I hope you are feeling better and stronger each day and that your elbow is much better. I will keep you in my daily prayers and will light another candle for you in church. God bless you always!! - Nancy, Lewisville, North Carolina
Dear Father Benedict: I Love you! Each time I hear your messages, I'm deeply moved, even to tears. God bless you! I say many prayers for you daily, including twenty-one decades of the beads and the Novena of Mercy. Lately, I've been saying even more of these prayers for you. I said the Sequence of Pentecost, as a Novena before Pentecost. Now, I"m including it in my daily prayers. I need the prayers you say for me,very much. There are so many problems in my family. Thank you for your prayers, and God bless you dear Father Benedict. - Adrienne, Thornhill, Ontario, Canada
Dear Fr. Benedict.- Mexican children are still praying for you and very happy you are back in the Trinity Retreat House remembering your 32 years before there. Let us continue to pray for each other - Yoya, Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico
Thank you for sharing your cross as well as your rehabiitation
with us. I just finished your book on when life dosen't make sense, which is
a perfect back drop for your circumstances. I appreciate your daily meditations
very much. - Mary Kay Mortimer, Steubenville, Ohio
