Dear friends of
Fr. Benedict,
From Trinity Retreat
Sunday July 25, 2004
Very often in writings in the secular press and even in
school, science and religion are set opposite one another. Many scientists with
a rather deep prejudice think that to be religious is to be superstitious and
many religious people respond by thinking that if a person is really educated
in science that it is unlikely that they will be religious. This is a sad misunderstanding
on both sides and based on a lot of rhetoric and talk that goes on. The actual
fact is that some of the greatest scientists who ever lived like Carrel and
Pasteur were deeply religious people. They found no problem with being scientific
and religious. The book I mentioned recently Healing Fire of Christ by Fr. Paul
Glynn explores this very clearly and with lots of examples. There are profound
books written on the relationship of science and religion, one of them by a
priest who lives in New Jersey Fr. Stanley Jaki, a brilliant scientist. These
books often go beyond the education level of the audience.
Again I recommend to you Fr. Glynn’s book which I think will make clear
to you why some of the most deeply religious people and committed Christians
of the twentieth century were people who were well-known and even renowned in
science.
Let us continue to pray for each other!
Father Benedict

Dear father Benedict. I'd like to let you know that I remember you in my prayers every morning. In fact I say a special prayer just for your recovery. I haven't missed a morning since I heard of your accident. I'd like to meet you in person someday! Thanks for all the prayers you've sent up for us . I hope that Jesus and the Blessed Mother are close to you during this painful time. Yours truly. - Ray, Brooklyn, New York
Dear Fr. Benedict, as usual your messages are always so inspirational. I particularly enjoyed your message for Friday, July 23. My mother taught me the Anima Christie when I was young and I have prayed this beautiful prayer after receiving Jesus in Holy Communion ever since. What a wonderful idea you gave us to pray this for the salvation of the whole world. From this day forward I will also do the same. Please be assured of my continued prayers for your full recovery and especially for your surgeries on your right arm and elbow. May God bless you, your brother friars and sisters. Your sister in Christ, - Michelle, Ontario, Canada
