Dear friends of Fr. Benedict,

From Trinity Retreat
Tuesday August 18, 2004
Our country is much preoccupied right now with politics
and political conventions. This is part of the democratic process, although
when all is said and done, it is a bit of a circus. When I was a teenager, I
used to listen to the tally at the Democratic National Convention when they
cast their votes. I would certainly never listen to the tally at this time of
my life. I know what is really important.
This week we will be having the Republican Convention in New York. I hope that
you will pray for us here in the city. Everybody is very tense, and there is
real danger of terrorism. New Yorkers usually take things in stride, but there
seems to be more anxiety since the attacks on the World Trade Center. Pray for
us and pray for the delegates to the convention. In terms of Christian values
they are extremely important people in our country at the present time.
Let us continue to pray for each other!
Father Benedict
