Dear Friends:
One of the CFR Sisters, Sr. Clare Marie, is making her final vows today at 4:30 PM in the Bronx. This is her commitment for life – soon to be a “lifer” for Jesus!
We have many ways of summing up our vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, such as “no money, no honey, and a boss!” Here’s a longer rhyming version I like to share with young people. (It’s best with a little “beat-box” background, so now’s your chance to rap in the privacy of your own home!)
POVERTY – it’s about being POOR
Maybe sleeping on the FLOOR, not goin’ to the STORE
But deep, deep DOWN it’s much much MORE
Being POOR IN SPIRIT is trusting God to the CORE
CHASTITY can be a BLAST YA SEE
‘Cause we’re PREPARIN’ for the MARRYIN’ of ETERNITY
God alone is our SPOUSE as we’re building up His HOUSE
Our deepest DESIRE drawing us higher and HIGHER
OBEDIENCE – it ain’t CONVENIENCE
Lettin’ down your DEFENSE and goin’ where you’re SENT
But by CHILLIN’ on our WILLIN’ we get greater freedom STILL
Like Jesus EMPTIED SELF to do His Father’s WILL
THREE VOWS, three ways of Christian TRANSFORMATION
One thing is certain, it’s a DIVINE VOCATION!
Thanks for your prayers for Sr. Clare and all of the Friars and Sisters of
the Renewal.
Fr. Richard Roemer, CFR (community vicar, residing at St. Joseph Friary in Harlem)
