Christmas Eve

O Night filled with anticipation
Yours is the silence that hears the hope in our breath
For many days long hence have we cried
Longingly have we called for the Lord to come
And now you, oh Night, so charged with expectation
You are here yet again...listening to us.

For two thousand years yours has been a special role
In the mantle of your dark skies the same stars have sung
On this Night
For two thousand years you have seen, oh Night most good,
Christians of Christmases past lavish their love
And count the minutes of your dying...
True preparation gives birth to a grateful heart
I pray that as such you would find mine...
For two thousand years, children have waited for you passing
For after your passing the Child of light comes

For two thousand years and on it shall be
No matter what popular society
May say, no matter if secularists have their way
They cannot kill the longing in our hearts that is borne with every beat
They cannot defeat the surety of the day of the birth of He
Who the Holy Spirit conceived
They cannot still the singing, the crying, the laughing, the dying
Of another Christmas Eve.
