I love the saints of God – regular people like us, yet such an example and encouragement to me. Saint Francis once warned his friars not to talk about the saints without trying to be like them. Admiration must lead to imitation.
The saints were poor in the things of this world and rich in the things of the world to come. Sirach 44 praises “…godly men whose virtues have not been forgotten: Their wealth remains… their glory will never be blotted out.” In Matthew 6, Jesus taught, “Do not store up for yourselves wealth on earth… rather, store up wealth in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroy, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”
Like the saints, let us live remembering our death; our deeds will follow us. (See Revelation 14:13)
God bless you; let us pray for each other,
Fr. Luke Mary Fletcher, CFR
