Dear Friends of the Friars,

I would like to take this opportunity to share a few thoughts about our webpage which I think you might find helpful.

“From the Friars” came into existence after Father Benedict's accident in Florida in the winter of 2004. So many phone calls were coming in asking for information that we decided to use our website to post daily updates on his condition. As the friars do not have internet access in the friary, this feat could only be made possible with the help and generosity of friends like Rosann Mucciolo and Joe Campo. Without them, you would be staring at a blank screen right now!

It was during these dark and uncertain days that “From the Friars” began taking shape. Through the mercy of God and the prayers of thousands throughout the world, Father Benedict slowly began to recover. Although lying prone for months in his hospital bed - he took his first steps into “cyber-space”! Like a true Franciscan, he didn’t waste any time or opportunity in bringing the gospel to the world.

After some months of carrying the lion's share of work for this unexpected apostolate, I was more than happy to explain to Father Benedict, once he was again able to speak, that thousands of people were anxious to hear from him. He dutifully offered daily reflections from his hospital bed; meanwhile he was receiving hundreds of E-mails every day (which, by the way, he promises to read each and every one in purgatory). After a few months, he handed the reins back to me; and being such a generous man, I shared this work with some other friars!

I am very happy that many of you have taken the opportunity to ask the friars questions and that we have the opportunity to offer both information and inspiration. We not only appreciate your questions, but also your patience - forgive our frequent “gaps and glitches” !

I would like to remind you that the heart of “From the Friars” is evangelization. In short, the messages and spiritual reflections are not only for you - but for others: friends, family members - even strangers. This is the meaning of the “print and post” logo. It's a reminder to print a copy or two to post on your refrigerator, or on your school or office bulletin board. Some of you are sending them to friends and relatives on a regular basis - that's great! How about letting us know how and with whom you are sharing “From the Friars”.

Thank you for your prayers. God bless you!

Fr. Glenn Sudano, CFR
