The family! One day we were hosting a family at our friary. I was so surprised to see one of the children in particular who often joined us for our prayers. It reminded me of the children at Fatima. Little children can have such innocence, devotion, and simplicity. I have some friends who home-school their 6 children. Everyday they say morning and night prayer, go to Mass, and spend a half-hour in Eucharistic adoration.
When Pope John Paul visited the United States in January of 1999, he said, “The society will go the way of the family”. Elsewhere he has said that the family is the fundamental cell or building block of society. This must be why the devil has inspired so many attacks against it. We must pray and work to uphold the family according to God’s design.
