The World Youth Day in Cologne was a grace-filled experience. Try to imagine over one million young people from some 193 different countries, sharing faith and culture for a whole week! Amidst the great diversity, there was a fundamental unity in our Catholic Christian faith. We are truly one body in Christ!

Responding to the theme, “We have come to worship Him”, every church in Cologne hosted adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. I was at a church, a mere block from the Cathedral, which was being hosted by Youth 2000. Throughout the week we prayed the Liturgy of the Hours and sang joyful songs to Jesus in every language imaginable. Confessions were being heard along the perimeter of the church all the while. The church was absolutely packed the whole week. We have reason for a great hope in the present and for the future! The new springtime of faith, hope, and love is appearing. This is a desperately needed message.

God bless you; let us pray for each other,

Fr. Luke Mary Fletcher, CFR
