On Wednesday of this week we will celebrate the feast of the Triumph of the Cross. Over the next three days we will continue a “triumphant” Stations of the Cross to lead up to this great feast which our Orthodox brothers and sisters celebrate with an enthusiasm second only to Easter Sunday. These Stations came to me as a simple song. They may strike you as unusual, but if it helps, think of Saint Francis and the way he approached the Cross.
The Triumphant Stations of the Cross
I want to run and dance with the Cross
I want to run, run and dance with the Cross
Not just expecting that times will get tough
Bravely embracing it isn’t enough
I want to live and move in the triumph of the Cross
I want to run, run and dance with the Cross.
I see Jesus being condemned by us to death
Not running from but dancing to His death
Not politic’ly correct, counting all as loss
Behold the Man of Truth running to His Cross
The King of Kings is courting with His Cross
I want to run, run and dance with His Cross.
I see Him taking up for us that heavy wood
In His hands that evil partner becomes good
Heedless of its shame and pain
The pain of Love becomes our gain
No greater love exists than in His Cross
I want to run, run and dance with this Cross.
He falls now as He dances with His Cross
So real the weakness He embraced for us
He enters the heart of fallen man
As only the humblest Saviour can
I will learn this move when dancing with the Cross
I want to run, run and dance with the Cross.
His mother as always is dancing here with Him
She taught Him first to dance to a wedding feast hymn
Blessed is she for her firm belief
Firmly she stands despite her grief
She magnifies the power of His Cross
I want to run, run and dance with His Cross.
Simon joins reluctantly in the dance
The Lord takes his hand offering the chance
Clumsy resistance soon turns to surprise
At ease of step caused by the love in His eyes
Simon finds His Lord by dancing with the Cross
I want to run, run and dance with the Cross.
(To be continued tomorrow)
