As I was driving down Amsterdam Avenue the other day, I noticed that the car in front of me was swerving around as he moved along. I presumed that he was drunk, high, or just a crazy New York taxi driver. After I hit a few big bumps, I realized that the swerving driver was dodging the many potholes in the road. He knew that road very well...
It occurred to me that a priest should know the road to heaven. He is to be like an expert driver who knows how to avoid the potholes of sin. After all, if you hit a big pothole you can get a flat tire or mess up the alignment making it hard to steer the car. Sin does that same thing to the soul. Don’t wait to take your soul into the garage of the confessional for a realignment and advice on how to avoid the potholes of life.
God bless you,
Fr. Luke Mary Fletcher, CFR
