Da Vinci Put To Flight

I was returning from our friary in Honduras Sunday, thinking about how beautiful that country and its people are, when I was shocked back into American culture by American Airlines. The movie they decided to show this month on domestic flights is the Da Vinci Code. It was annoying enough to be aware of movie-goers subjecting themselves to a movie that treats the Lord Jesus as merely a dead historical figure and denies the Divine inspiration of the Scriptures, but it is even worse to be subjected to it as a “captive audience” on an airplane, even if it is only a silent movie without the earphones. Perhaps they didn’t realize how offensive the content is to Catholics (especially for religious since the monk figure looks and acts like a retro-Frankenstein) and other Christians, but they should be informed now.

Our Community (the “frequent fliers of the Renewal” as we sometimes joke about) will be writing to voice our complaint as a group who often use (used?) this airline. If you are able to write a letter or fax them as a customer or friend of a customer, you can send it to the following:

American Airlines
Customer Relations
P.O. Box 619612, MD 2400
DFW Airport, TX 75261-9612

Fax: (817) 967-4162
Or go to AA.com and follow the link for "contact AA" found on the top of the page, then "customer relations" on the left.

Let’s hope they will put this movie to flight in a different sense!

Fr. Richard Roemer, CFR
