Dear friends of Fr. Benedict,
From
the Hospital:
Message for Easter Saturday, April 18, 2004
In some respects a hospital brings out the best or the worst in a person. People who are really ill or who have been hospitalized for a long time, or who are just having a difficult time with it all, may regress and act childishly and may be very embarrassed when they do this. On the other hand, others will feel fairly 'up' and present a stiff upper lip and a bold face. We sometimes see this when we go to visit a patient who is terminally ill and has accepted his condition, and is at peace. It's quite remarkable.
Many people in the hospital, however, especially the elderly, just seem to fade slowly into the distance. They don't speak much, they have few interests, and they don't seem to come out of themselves. People get annoyed at this, perhaps I sometimes get annoyed at it myself, since I'm in a nursing home. But they are preparing to leave, to get on the boat. I am so grateful that I believe in the God of infinite mercy. All around me I see people who don't look as if they are going there, but who in fact are being called by God and summoned home. They may not even be consciously aware of this, but at a certain moment they will hear Christ call them. They will know the truth of the divine mercy revelation.
Let us continue to pray for each other!
Father Benedict

Dear Father; Finally our local cable company added EWTN late last year where I was introduced to you. I have been so inspired by your talks & other EWTN speakers. Today you talked about suffering and it puts more meaning into my years of suffering. I pray every day for your complete recovery and say my rosaries for you. Thank you.-Joan, Chilliwack, BC, CANADA
