Dear friends of Fr. Benedict,

From the Hospital:

Message for Wednesday, April 21, 2004

Frustrations are part of life, just as disappointments are: things that don't work as they should, events that don't come off, disappointing situations that go on for years and years. When these things occur, we get frustrated. This, then, can become a more dangerous situation than merely being disappointed, because it means that we have become angry, and our anger does not lead us to react in a way that is truly Christian and Gospel-centered.

It's a good idea to look at our lives and see whether they are riddled with frustrations rather than disappointments. Our divine Savior had plenty of disappointments, but nothing shows that He was frustrated. He kept on right to the end trying to bring salvation to the world.

Unfortunately, people tend to see the Last Judgment as an act of frustration on God's part. They forget that God did everything possible so that the final judgment would not bring eternal ruin to people. It is not an act of vengeance. God's judgment is an act of divine reality, which He Himself cannot change. God does not get frustrated. For Him good is good, and evil is evil.

Let us continue to pray for each other!

Father Benedict

Dear Father Benedict, I am so thankful and deeply touched by your recovery and the wisdom of your messages from the hospital. I have been catching up on your progress. The truth God lets you speak to those of us who have pondered God's ways, in the circumstances of our own lives, is such a gift. I am still so sorry that you have had to endure such suffering and pain. Your wisdom has always cut right to the heart but considering what God has allowed in your own life, it just seems as though He has put everything in BOLD PRINT! I continue to pray for you daily, while caring for the needs of my children. You have again, reminded me that their suffering and their lives are not in vain. No matter how incapicitated they look to the world, their presence and their ability to love those around them, their dependence on others, their simple but strong belief and trust in God, and their hope in heaven make them a precious gift to the world. You are a precious gift to us and we are grateful that God has allowed you to continue to speak to all of us. We love you,-Dale, Sam, Stacey, Brian & Stevie, Metairie, Los Angelas
