You draw a very good analogy between the smoking log and the invisible presence of the Holy Spirit, Fr Richard. Jesus spoke in parables so that people would understand in simple terms what He meant, drawing upon the practices and symbols of that time. We too benefit in hearing examples that we can relate to in order to better comprehend the Word of God, especially examples that "happened" to us. Fr Glenn too, along with the other friars in their daily columns, draw wonderful, simple examples from every day living (and that's from where it must come) to back up their "teaching." I hope all of you will always have some time left in the day to prepare a daily letter. They are just long enough to say something, but short enough to want to read. Ah--we Americans seem to want everything short and sweet!
