“Look Daddy, a little baby!”

A couple of weeks ago, our fifteen postulants were praying outside an abortion clinic. As they were praying, a cute little girl was walking past with her father. When she saw our poster of a baby eight weeks after conception, she immediately said, “Look Daddy, a little baby!”

Out of the mouths of babes comes the truth. This little five-year-old girl, who had no agenda, no ax to grind, and no compromises to make, spoke the obvious truth. She saw the five fingers, the five toes, the little arms and legs that the baby already has at eight weeks after conception, and she knew it was a baby. No one had to tell her. How sad that we adults, with all our education and experience, often miss this obvious truth.

What could cause a person to miss the obvious? I thought of the pain that many pregnant women experience. They are often alone, often poor, often have many difficult life situations. They are often mistreated by men who have lied to them and who are abandoning them now. What a sad situation. My heart goes out to them. They need love, they need help. They need someone to bring them the truth. What if I were in that situation? Who would bring the truth to me; who would help me? I would hope that if I were sinking in quicksand, someone would throw me a rope. Please, look around and throw someone a rope.

Pax et bonum,
