Today is Sunday, February 1. Here is
the latest update on Fr. Benedict
.
Fr. Glenn is out of town on his hermitage day, but he asked me to convey this report to all of you.
Fr. Benedict had another good day today. The friars report that he continues to be "persevering in his stability". Bishop Wenski, a good friend of Fr. Mariusz, celebrated Mass today in Fr. Benedict's room.
The surgery to tighten the stretched ligaments in Father's shoulder is scheduled for Tuesday. Fr. Glenn will give a complete report upon his return to Yonkers on Monday evening.
Please continue to keep Fr. Benedict in your prayers! God bless you!
Rosann Mucciolo
The friars are sharing your e-mail with Fr. Benedict every day. They say that he is very pleased, although somewhat uncomfortable with so many complements! Here are a few more e-mail:
_____________________________________________________________________________
Daily prayers and best wishes from your friends in the Archdiocese of Newark. We are looking forward to welcoming the Novitiate. - Archbishop Myers, New Jersey
I am praying daily for your recovery. In large part, it has been your teaching via EWTN which has led me to the Roman Catholic faith. May our dear Lord grant you a full recovery. - Martha, Athans, Georgia
Dear Father Benedict, I am a Presbyterian Pastor from Philadelphia. I've never met you but have watched you many times on EWTN and have read several of your books. You have been a blessing to me. I am praying that our blessed Lord and Savior will touch you with his healing grace. May our Blessed Mother nurse you with her tender love. - Neil, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Fr Benedict, Renewed good wishes from your ancestral county in Ireland - from your greatest Irish admirer - John Timoney, Tipperary, Ireland. - John, Clonmel, Ireland
Dearest Fr. Bemedict: May God be with you in a special way. I am a convert, brought into the church through the influence of Mother Teresa. I have followed you since converting. I have a book of yours signed by you and Fr. John Lynch Who accompanied you to St Clare's in Calif. Fr. Lynch was a seminarian then. You have given me hope and I will be grateful to Jesus for you. You may be embarrassed by all the attention, but we love you. - Bill, Rohnert park, California
Dear Father, You are so very wise and smart. You take straight forwardly and in a no-nonsense way telling us about Jesus and what he wants us to become. I enjoy learning from you. I pray that you will be back on your feet soon. One of my favorite remembrances of a subject you spoke on was how awful MTV is and to hit the sponsors of that channel in their wallets. - Darlene, Lutherville, Maryland
Dear Fr. Benedict, I am a deacon at the North American College in Rome, and I want you to know that we are praying for you here daily. We have posted updates on the prayer board here and continue to walk with you on the way to healing. Please allow me to take this chance to also say "thank you" for all that you have allowed the Lord to do in the life of the Church through you. I am from the Diocese of Providence, and have had several opportunities to meet you, in particular when our minor seminary went on retreat at Larchmount. Your faithful witness to the merciful love of God in His Son Jesus Christ and the constant call to repentance and faithfulness have had a profound effect in my own vocation, as they have for so many others. Please know that your voice continues to echo in the hearts of those who have been touched by you. We look forward to seeing you well again. God be with you, as we know He is. May Jesus Christ be Praised! - Rev. Mr. Christopher, Vatican City, Italy
I was permitted to hang unused KofC Rosary beads blessed by the KofC Supreme Chaplain in Padre Pio's confessional for the sole purpose of Fr. Benedict's recovery. I can forward a digital picture of the rosary behind the wrought iron cage protecting one of his actual confessionals. We all prayed for your recovery and the Staff at Padre pleaded for Fr. Benedict to come to the shrine when he is able, and said if it were on a Friday we would only serve Fish. - Grand Knight Tom, Montgomery, New York
Thank you so much for all you have done for all of God's children. Your trip to Kellenbergh High School in Long Island helped one young man decide to become a Marianist Brother. Thank you so much again and our rosaries and prayers for your complete recovery are with you. - Barbara, Fairfeild, New York
Dear Fr. Benedict - You brought me back to the Church after 27 years away. Meeting you at St. Rita's was mystical and such a privilege. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME NOW! Jesus loves you a lot and so do I!!! - Lynn, Alex, Vermont
Father Benedict, We just wanted to let you know that there are a hundred junior high students at Holy Family Catholic School in Irving praying for you at the beginning of each of our classes. We have listened to your tapes (and love them!) and wait everyday for an update. Jesus has been so generous - we can't tell you how happy we are to know that you are getting better. We will keep sending up our prayers that the Lord will give you strength and every grace you need to endure this difficult time. Thank you, Father, for loving God so much and teaching us how to do the same. - Miss Pati and the 6th, 7th and 8th graders at HFNS, Irving, Texas
Dear Father, Through your accident I have been calld to pray for you and others who I would not have even thought of. Through your suffering and the faithfulness of those around you I am developing a new sense of what a precious gift the Lord has given us in our human life. Pray that I along with many others will have renewed "respect for life". My prayers continue for your return to health as God wills. - Veronica, Indpls, Indiana
The Larchmont Oratory is praying for you, Lorena, Gina, Louise, Anne-Marie, Maria, Ed, and you are remembered at St. Augustine's Sunday Mass and at St. Catherine's in Greenwich Sunday Mass. - Larchmont, New York
I AM NOT CATHOLIC. I love listening on EWTN becaus ou make sense. Now. Get better because your work is not yet done! Oh Father....thanks so much for what you gave us and now we await more! - Joseph, Clifton, New Jersey
Dear Father Benedict, Our family continues to pray for your complete recovery with the suggested short, but fervent and heartfelt prayer, "Lord, have mercy on your servant, Father Benedict Groeschel!" Our faith is deepened each day as we read the eloquent and inspiring report on your progress from Father Glen. But we are most nourished by seeing daily the incredible video of you telling each of us every morning to "Pick up our cross and follow Him." What a great gift you are giving even in your silence and suffering. We are even referring friends who are experiencing great suffering who may not even know about you to log on to Father Glen's letter so they, too, may be lifted up by your video and encouraged by your words and faith. So, God continues to use your life even as you lay silent. May God bless you and grant you a complete and speedy recovery. - Carlie, Arlington, Virginia
