May 2006

May the Risen Lord give you His peace! Sorry for the delay this month. I have been on the road more than usual. Br. Michael, Br .Christopher and Br. Solanus will be ordained to the Priesthood on May 13 at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Please pray for all the men who are being ordained throughout the world. The new springtime is here!

Last time I wrote about the prayer of the Our Father, this month I would like to encourage you to read Sacred Scripture every day. Want a starting point? The four Gospels, which are true and authentic, are a great place to start (look out Da Vinci Hoax and Gospel of Judas). Saint Francis had a great love for God's Word. No one has a reverence for the Bible like the Catholic Church. It is our book. "It is true that being a Christian means saying "yes" to Jesus Christ, but let us remember that this "yes" has two levels: It consists in surrendering to the Word of God and relying on it, but it also means, at a later stage, endeavoring to know better - and better the profound meaning of this Word" (JPII, CT #20).

Check out the catholic response to the Da Vinci Code by following the links on our homepage.
I posted the top four catholic web sites dealing with this issue. This is an opportunity to evangelize!!!

Next month, I will write about a method of reading Scripture called Lectio Divina. Don't forget that May is the month of Our Lady. May she help us to offer a generous "yes" to the Lord in all things (especially our vocations)!

Regarding Scripture, I recommend the following resources: 1) The Ignatius Study Bible (individual booklets)
2) Letter and Spirit, by Scott Hahn 3) Scripture Matters, by Scott Hahn
4) Scripture in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

I will be away on the following dates during May:
  • May 3-5 EWTN, Life on the Rock on the 4th, Alabama. Listen to the program # 461 on archive here.
  • May 5-7 Wedding in New Orleans (pray for Mary and Clint).
  • May 19-22 Mass of Thanksgiving for Fr. Solanus @ Midland, TX.
